{"id":1754,"date":"2020-04-25T14:08:12","date_gmt":"2020-04-25T14:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/chimamm.org\/?p=1754"},"modified":"2020-04-25T14:21:25","modified_gmt":"2020-04-25T14:21:25","slug":"3year-old-boy-with-dysentery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chimamm.org\/?p=1754","title":{"rendered":"3YEAR OLD BOY WITH DYSENTERY"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"1754\" class=\"elementor elementor-1754\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-57c91d4 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"57c91d4\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-9433aa0\" data-id=\"9433aa0\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ef7878c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ef7878c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">FE\u00a0 (Initials for\u00a0 the patient\u2019s name)\u00a0 3yr old\u00a0 boy,\u00a0 whose\u00a0 parents\u00a0 left\u00a0 Rwanda\u00a0 to\u00a0 seek refuge in Uganda a few years ago, although unregistered with refugee commission, they were able\u00a0 to\u00a0 find\u00a0 shelter\u00a0 in\u00a0 the\u00a0 nearby\u00a0 locations.\u00a0 They originally settled\u00a0 in Mubende district and started subsistence farming which would get them food to eat but nothing to save.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">FE\u2019s parents were saddened by the ill health of their beloved son.\u00a0 He had developed fevers, bloody diarrhea, was unable to eat, and generally very weak. The child lost significant amount\u00a0 of\u00a0 blood\u00a0 and\u00a0 thus\u00a0 required\u00a0 a\u00a0 transfusion. He\u00a0 had\u00a0 sought\u00a0 treatment\u00a0 from\u00a0 nearby public\u00a0 health\u00a0 facilities\u00a0 and\u00a0 as it\u00a0 is the\u00a0 norm,\u00a0 he\u00a0 couldn\u2019t\u00a0 get\u00a0 appropriate\u00a0 care\u00a0 since\u00a0 most of these centers lack drugs, blood for transfusions and sometimes inadequately staffed.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At\u00a0 that\u00a0 point,\u00a0 FE\u2019s\u00a0 parents\u00a0 had\u00a0 no\u00a0 option, but\u00a0 to mobilize the little resources\u00a0 to get transport to transfer the child to Mulago National Referral Hospital-based in Kampala. All they needed\u00a0 was\u00a0 to\u00a0 save\u00a0 their\u00a0 child. Upon\u00a0 arrival\u00a0 in Mulago, FE was\u00a0 welcomed\u00a0 by\u00a0 passionate doctors;\u00a0 they\u00a0 were\u00a0 willing\u00a0 to\u00a0 do\u00a0 anything\u00a0 within\u00a0 their\u00a0 reach\u00a0 to\u00a0 save\u00a0 the\u00a0 boy\u2019s\u00a0 life. However, there wasn\u2019t much to offer as the hospital had run out of antibiotics that FE needed to have his condition treated. Getting blood for transfusion was a challenge too; neither did his father have any money left to buy meds in the outside pharmacies. The situation was too difficult for him (father) to comprehend and he was\u00a0 begging to wonder whether it was worthy bringing the\u00a0 son all\u00a0 the\u00a0 way to\u00a0 Mulago\u00a0 than leaving him (FE) to\u00a0 die\u00a0 at \u00a0home\u00a0 where\u00a0 they\u00a0 would\u00a0 not need money to transport the body back in case FE passed on.\u00a0 His worries increased when he learnt that\u00a0 his\u00a0 other\u00a0 4 children\u00a0 and wife\u00a0 might follow suit\u00a0 since\u00a0 this\u00a0 was\u00a0 a\u00a0 communicable disease.<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It\u2019s was at point that\u00a0 the\u00a0 Primary Care\u00a0 team sought Caring Hands Foundation\u00a0 (CHF) intervention .We rose to the father\u2019s rescue and we were able to provide a 7 ten day course of antibiotics,\u00a0 feeds\u00a0 and\u00a0 feeding\u00a0 tube,\u00a0 pampers,\u00a0 and\u00a0 our\u00a0 team\u00a0 continuously\u00a0 provided\u00a0 health education on proper hygiene and how he could prevent his children from contracting such a disease. We (CHF), the father and primary care team were pleased to see FE back on his feet, playing and able to feed himself.\u00a0<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">FE\u2019s is one of the very many Ugandans who are suffering from curable diseases and yet can\u2019t\u00a0 provide\u00a0 for\u00a0 themselves.\u00a0 Many\u00a0 more\u00a0 patients\u00a0 at\u00a0 Mulago\u00a0 hospital\u00a0 have\u00a0 similar\u00a0 or\u00a0 worse stories.
