Kasensero is what we in America call “a tough nut to crack”. Disease, lack of formal education, superstition, old traditions, prostitution, suspicion, and lack of economic stimulation plus a myriad of other factors make bringing hope to Kasensero a “challenge”. During our five years of ministry to this community, we have been knocked down a few times during our fight, but each time God has put us back on our feet. I personally like Jesus’ scriptural encouragement and admonition, “that the gates of Hell will not prevail”, and it is truly this kind of spiritual warfare that is being waged in Kasensero. If you decide to join us on the front line and see Kasensero for yourself, you will learn what the Scriptures mean, “not by power or by might, but by My Spirit says the Lord”. Proverbs 3:5 might also take on a new meaning to you. But after you start learning to stop trusting in your own resources, and instead leaning on God, Kasensero sort of grows on you, and depending on where you sleep in town, the growth could be either literally or figuratively. What can I say, you have to be somewhat of an adventurer to travel to Africa, and you definitely need to bring along a good sense of humor. You will be tested in all manners of living, but I can tell you, it’s worth every minute of it.
Now the crux of the matter. One of the many things Caring Hands is initiating in Kasensero is the construction of a new primary school. Wehave hired the lawyers, purchased the land, leveled the ground, developed the blueprints, set up the proper committees, and now it is up to you. We need your help in providing the funds needed to get this project off the ground. After meeting and working with the governmental survey teams, our plans have been certified by the Ugandan government and the school’s construction will be supervised by them as well, insuring a well built school for the children that will last for decades. If you could see what passes for some school buildings in Uganda you might think twice about enrolling your own children in such places, but the Kasensero Hope of Life School will be a first rate facility. You will notice that a copy of the blueprints and an artist’s rendition of the school’s layout are posted for your inspection. Posted is a list of the construction costs and other projected expenditures for you to look over. ……continues on page 3….
