Caring Hands and Kampala MRI Center Enter Into Collaboration
February 8th 2016 Caring Hands (CH) and the Kampala MRI Centre (KMC) entered into an agreement that will will provide Mulago patients a much needed lift. Over the last year, CH and KMC have been fine tuning an arrangement that will bring the unique benefits of MRI scanning, at a more affordable cost, to the patient population of Uganda’s only tertiary care hospital.
MRI scanning is a vital tool needed in today’s medicine, and unfortunately, the MRI unit housed in Mulago has it’s problems. Price for an MRI scan has always been a limiting factor at Mulago as so much of the Ugandan population cannot afford the expense of such investigations, to the point that many Mulago physicians do not even consider MRI diagnostics for their patients, yet there are many cases where only the uniqueness of MRI scanning provides means to confirm a diagnosis leading to effective treatment. Our agreement lowers the average cost of MRI services to the patient from Caring Hands to Kampala MRI Centre.
KMC has entered the picture and brightened the scope of this much needed sophisticated imaging in Uganda.
Ms. Janssen (former KMC Manager) admits KMC has an uphill battle educating physicians and the population at large about the benefits of MRI, but remains resolute in pursuing the implementation of this modality into the mainstream of Ugandan medical practice despite the current challenges. It is through these public forums and physician continuing medical education that this generation will awaken to the understanding of MRI’s place in modern medicine. CH would like to be part of this educational and transformational change to bring about a new standard of medical care throughout Uganda. We embrace the new collaboration with KMC and we encourage our website supporters to visit KMC at: www.kampalamricentre.com.
